Stria vs StayInScope: waitlist or a live loop

Stria vs StayInScope at a glance

Stria — Scope, sign-off and billing as one record — every client request judged against a locked baseline, and a tamper-evident approval you can export.

StayInScope — A scope tool with a published price ladder and a manual log of extras plus e-signature. Every plan button on its public page still read "Join waitlist" on our verification date.

The short version

StayInScope is worth watching rather than buying yet: the ladder is published but the product was not generally available when we last checked, and the mobile apps were labelled coming soon. If it ships as described, the free tier is generous. Stria is available now and automates the intake step rather than asking you to log extras by hand.

Choose Stria if

You need something you can use today, and you would rather the tool read the request than log it after the fact.

Choose StayInScope if

You are happy to wait for access and the published free tier — three projects and five change orders a month — covers your work.

All comparisons

If you searched for a freelancer change-order tool in 2026, StayInScope is one of the names

Google is showing. We fetched the live page. Here is the useful version, including the parts

that favour them — and the part their own buttons will not let you ignore.

The short answer

StayInScope is a change-order packager that is still on a waitlist. You define scope up

front, you log extras yourself, it builds a professional change order, and the client e-signs

through a link with no account. A client-health dashboard scores who stays inside the original

deal. That is a clean, narrow job.

Stria is a live system of record. The agreed scope is a locked, versioned artefact. Client

mail reaches it by forwarding, a selected Slack channel can be watched without a workspace-wide

grant, and a priced change order is the beginning of a chain that ends in an invoice rather than

in a signed PDF you then have to bill somewhere else.

If you want a focused e-sign loop and you are willing to wait for them to launch, StayInScope is

aimed at that. If you need something you can put a real project through this week, keep reading.

Where StayInScope is the better choice

Four places, honestly, assuming they ship what the page describes.

  • The job is only the change order. If you already invoice in something you like, a tool that

stops at a signed extra is less to adopt than a system that expects to own the money too.

  • Client health as a score. Their dashboard is built to show who stays in scope and who

does not. Stria will show you the extras; it does not grade clients as a health percentage.

  • Designed for the live call. The page's own pitch is logging a scope addition in under

thirty seconds while you are still on the phone. We do not have a mobile app. (Theirs is

labelled coming soon — iOS 15+ and Android 10+ — so this is a planned advantage, not a

shipped one, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.)

  • A listed $0 forever tier. Three active projects and five change orders a month, with

e-signature links. That is a standing free plan on the page, not a fourteen-day trial. You

still cannot start it until they launch.

Where Stria is the better choice

1. It is actually open

StayInScope's own plan buttons all say Join waitlist. The hero, the newsletter, and the success

message all talk about writing when they launch. We build Stria, and we are not going to compete

with a product you cannot log into by pretending the waitlist is a rounding error. If you need

the loop this month, that fact decides the comparison before any feature row does.

2. You do not have to notice the extra yourself

StayInScope's process step two is "a new request comes in. You log it directly in StayInScope —

from the app or dashboard." That is honest, and it inherits the core problem of every logger:

the requests that cost the most did not look like requests at the time, so nobody logged them.

Stria detects an out-of-scope request inside forwarded client email, with no mailbox to connect,

and watches a selected Slack channel without granting workspace-wide message access. It

determines scope on every client comment, not only the ones you remembered to file. Forwarding

means you decide what it sees, which also means it cannot see anything you forget to forward —

a real hole, and theirs does not have a watcher to put in that hole either.

3. The verdict shows its working

Stria returns one verbatim citation from the scope text the call was based on. You can see

this with no account: paste a scope excerpt and a client request into the free check. StayInScope

does not describe a paste-the-message judgement at all.

4. A signed change order is not cash

Their fourth step is "Client signs, you get paid." The page does not describe invoicing,

partial payments, dunning, or an accounting sync. E-sign is the end of their flow.

Stria continues: the priced change order supersedes the scope with a new version rather than

editing the old one, revision rounds are counted against the number you agreed, and the money

is handled in the same place. You can invoice a client with no project and no deliverable,

record partial payments, write off what will never arrive, run a dunning ladder on a Stripe

invoice, and sync invoices, payments and reconciliation with either Xero or QuickBooks Online,

one ledger at a time. Collection is on your own Stripe with no platform fee on top of your

processor.

5. Price, stated fairly

Read from each vendor's own site on 1 September 2026:

StriaStayInScope
Entry$19/mo, 2 seats$19/mo Solo Pro
Mid$39/mo, 5 seats$49/mo Team, up to 5 seats
Top$79/mo, 15 seatsNone published
Annual optionYesNone published
Standing free tierYesListed, behind a waitlist

Solo Pro matches Stria's entry dollar for dollar. Team is more expensive than Stria's five-seat

rung. Neither comparison matters if you cannot sign in.

Rows marked "not stated" mean exactly that: StayInScope's site does not describe them either way,

and we are not going to claim an absence we cannot check.

Moving over

There is nothing to import from a scope tool, so this is the easy part — what you carry over is

your client book, not your scope history.

Import clients, projects and unpaid invoices from a CSV export — HoneyBook, Bonsai, Dubsado or a

spreadsheet. Columns are matched by name where we recognise them, split first and last name

columns are joined, and anything we cannot place is listed for you to point at a field before a

single row is written. The preview tells you how many clients are new and how much is already

past due.

How to decide in ten minutes

  1. Do you need this working this week? If yes, StayInScope's own buttons answer for you.
  2. When something crept last year, did you notice in the moment? If you did, a logger with

e-sign is enough and theirs is built for that. If you noticed at invoice time, logging was

never the missing piece.

  1. Did the signed extra become an invoice? A change order that never got billed is a tidier

record of the same loss.

Where to start

Stria is open. The free plan carries three clients and six deliverables a month and needs no card,

which is enough to put a real project through before deciding.

Start your 14-day trial, or try it with no account at all: the

free scope check needs no signup and

saves nothing. The live demo shows what the client sees.

Useful alongside this comparison whichever tool you choose:

how to tell a client a request is out of scope,

the change order template clients sign, and

scope creep software in 2026.
